ThermiVa is a painless non-surgical vaginal tightening treatment for women who want to reclaim what childbirth or aging may have taken away. Using the same technology that’s used in ThermiTight and ThermiSmooth, radiofrequency energy is sent to the desired area (internally or externally), heating the tissue and stimulating the body’s own collagen.

How Does ThermiVa Work?
ThermiVa treatments use radiofrequency energy to gently heat tissue to rejuvenate collagen, without discomfort or downtime. The complete ThermiVa procedure includes 3 separate treatments over a period of 3 months. There is no downtime other than the office appointments, and no anesthetics are required. Patients are comfortable, relaxed and very pleased with the noticeable results.
To tighten the vagina at the opening and the full length of the vagina, noticeable to patient and partner.
To tighten the labial tissues and reduce sag and “Camel Toes.” Results in noticeably softer and smoother skin. More comfort in tight clothing, less self-awareness in leotards and bikinis.
Vaginal/Vulvar Dryness or Atrophic Vaginitis
To add softer and thicker skin and more moisture both internally and externally to make daily life and sexual intercourse more comfortable without the use of hormones.
Mild to Moderate Stress Incontinence
May reduce accidents and leakage and may reduce urge symptoms. Along with Kegel Exercises women may avoid the use of mesh slings in their vaginas.
Sexual or Orgasmic Dysfunction
May result in increased sensitivity, more coordinated and stronger muscular contractions, and ability to achieve orgasms in a shorter time.
What Can ThermiVa Do For Me?
ThermiVa can do a number of things for you. These are just some things:
Appearance of Genitalia
- It will tighten the tissues of your labia (non-surgical labiaplasty). This reduces sagging and firms up the area for a more youthful appearance. You won’t be embarrassed about wearing tight clothing, such as jeans and leggings.
- It will tighten the vaginal canal for heightened sexual sensation for you and your partner. Patients have said that they are able to experience orgasms more easily, and even multiple orgasms in one sexual encounter
- It can increase nerve sensitivity so you feel more
- It can increase the strength of pelvic floor contractions
- You’ll have improved vaginal moisture inside and outside for softer and thicker vulva-vaginal skin. This allows you to enjoy sex more
- Our technology will give you a renewed sense of self with a more positive self and life perspective. After all, sexual satisfaction can do wonders for your mind and soul!
- It can correct mild to moderate stress incontinence or over-active bladder, so you won’t have embarrassing accidents anymore
- Tightening of vulva-vaginal tissues results in an increase in tightness of the prolapse organs (specifically the bladder, uterus, vagina, small bowel and rectum). Scientific research has proven that you may experience an improvement in prolapse by one grade, making it unnecessary to undergo reconstructive surgery.
…and you can have all of these benefits in a series of a couple of sessions that don’t require any surgery!
ThermiVa vs Other Vaginal Rejuvenation Treatments
ThermiVa vs Laser Treatments
Both ThermiVa and laser treatments (FemTouch/FemiLift/MonaLisa Touch) are effective in shrinking vaginal tissues, leading to improved vaginal laxity, improvement or cure of mild to moderate urinary incontinence, and in many cases improvement in sexual and orgasmic function. They also help significantly with vaginal lubrication in women with postmenopausal atrophy.
ThermiVa works by heating the vaginal tissues to a degree than new collagen and nerves form in the vaginal tissues, using radiofrequency energy. The laser products work by using a laser to cut tiny little pits into the tissue throughout the vagina. Both procedures cause similar effect in the vagina. Many women find the laser treatments (during and after) more painful than ThermiVa and laser treatments typically have more downtime. ThermiVa also has the advantage in that it can be used on the outer vagina/labia as well to treat cosmetic sag of the labia majora and labia minora, not uncommon as women increase in age or have children.
Our practice uses ThermiVa because we see it as more comfortable for our patients, and can also be offered at a lower price point than laser (as the laser equipment is nearly 3x the cost of ThermiVa equipment). Our patients have been tremendously happy with ThermiVa.
ThermiVa vs Labiaplasty or Vaginoplasty
These are surgical options for removing excess tissue externally (labiaplasty) or surgically tightening the vaginal canal (vaginoplasty). Most women experience significantly more pain and downtime with these surgical procedures. They are much costlier and do not address concerns of vaginal dryness or sexual/orgasmic dysfunction.
Women choose feminine rejuvenation treatments for their own personal reasons. ThermiVa was designed for women who want the safest and most effective option for:
- Reclaiming control of their bodies and sex lives after childbirth, weight fluctuations, aging and other medical conditions that caused the muscles of the vagina and surrounding tissues to stretch and become lax
- Relief from the physical discomfort of stretched or enlarged labia or reviving their youthful look and feel through the most precise treatment for tightening, smoothing and increasing the thickness of the skin
- Restoring their confidence and sexual satisfaction through enhanced sensation and appearance
Excessive stretching of the vaginal muscles is a common occurrence after vaginal birth or due to aging. Damage can diminish sensation during sexual activity, reduce satisfaction and change the relationship between partners. Laxity of the skin is caused by numerous factors; and no area is immune to this natural decline.
Preparing for Vaginal Rejuvenation
It’s best to schedule your ThermiVa treatment on a day when you’re not having your menstrual period.
Prepare for the treatment: This isn’t complicated. Shave the area. Get as much as you can. If you are afraid to go to the area with a razor, an electric razor can do the trick. We don’t want to have to send you back to the locker room for this detail, so do the best you can. No need to shave the “mons pubis.” This is the area you can see standing up with your legs closed looking in the mirror. Just get down around vaginal lips and opening. The day of the treatment – shower. Wash the area. I’m sure I don’t have to say it but really, w-a-s-h the area. Use soap, water, rinse well.
In the room: When you get you in the room we are going to take LOTS of pictures. Standing up, from the front, from the back, laying down in the stirrups, spread open. Do not worry. It has all been seen by us before. There is nothing new here. We will also make sure nothing but your vagina and some leg are visible in the photos – no face, no other parts, you will not be identifiable. Additionally, your photos will be assigned a number. There is only one place in your records where your number is matched to your name, so your photos will NEVER be identifiable.
Now it’s time to start. You will lie down on the exam table, your feet go in the stirrups and ultrasound gel is applied all over. Really gooey. The device will be placed on you and the machine turned on. It will feel like nothing at this point, just the smooth plastic surface of the device hand piece and gel. As your aesthetician moves the device around the area it’s doing it’s thing. It is heating up to the perfect temperature using radio frequency. Yes, you will feel the heat. It is really nothing. If you do feel anything uncomfortable speak up. The device will be moved faster or to another area or more gel will be applied.
The aesthetician will move from area to area, swooshing and swooping. This is the perfect time to ask any questions about anything we do at the clinic or anything your mind wanders to. She is focused on what she’s doing, but she can talk. Before you know it, it’s all over. Some women have felt a type of zap as the device is moved internally, but once it’s there, nothing at all. Just warmth.
All done – almost. You will need to wipe off all that gel and have another photo shoot. You will be able to sit with a mirror and see your “after.” The camera will be able to show you the “before.” You will be amazed! That’s it. All set. You can go home, go out, have sex, exercise, lounge around, there are no limitations. Over the next first few days some women have said they feel like the number of trips to the bathroom to pee have increased, but that goes away after a few days.
Recovery and Results
There is no downtime or recovery period after ThermiVa treatment and women can resume normal activities (including sexual activity) immediately afterward.
Tissue tightening, increased moisture, and increased sensation and tone are usually evident within days of the first treatment. However, to get full and lasting benefits from ThermiVa, you’ll need three sessions spaced out over a period of three months. Each session is about 45 minutes or less. After you’ve finished your three sessions, you might need one every year just to maintain your results. However, you can help maintain your results, or even improve on them, by performing pelvic floor exercises.
During your initial consultation, one of our certified advanced aestheticians will review your medical history, including your gynecologic and urologic history, and discuss your specific concerns. It’s best to have clearance by your gynecologist for treatment, and to have had a PAP test within the past year. She will then work with you to develop a customized treatment plan to help you achieve your goals, using ThermiVa and potentially other treatment options available in our office. Treatment plans are reviewed by Dr. Hayes, who is available for further consultation if needed.
The price for ThermiVa varies depending on your areas of concern, the number of sessions needed and your ultimate goals. Your provider and you will work together to create a customized treatment plan that’s tailored to your body, your goals and your budget.
